Heart of Asia Istanbul Process, HoA IP, has two chairs, Permanent chair and a Co-chair. Afghanistan is the permanent chair. The co-chairing shifts among the member states. Each year one-member state volunteer to co-chair the process with Afghanistan.
The chair and co-chair work in close coordination and collaboration to facilitate the Heart of Asia Istanbul Process.
The first Heart of Asia Istanbul Process was co-chaired by Turkey in 2011. Turkey is co-chair of HoA IP for the year 2019 and Tajikistan has volunteered to co-chair the process in 2020.
