The Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process Ambassadorial Reception was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan

Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, held a reception for the ambassadors of the Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process (HoA-IP) on November 5, 2019, to commemorate the appointment of the new Deputy Foreign Minister (DFM) Mirwais Nab.

Ambassadors and representatives from Participating Countries, Supporting Countries, Regional and International Organizations Supporting the Process and officials of the MoFA attended the reception.

The reception began with brief remarks of the Deputy Foreign Minister Mirwais Nab, where he welcomed the guests and expressed his appreciation of the Republic of Turkey for its preparations and efforts to hold the 8th HoA-IP Ministerial Conference (MC) which will be held in the Republic of Turkey on December 9. DFM Nab thanked the supporters of the process for their active involvement, described regional cooperation as one of the country's foreign policy priorities and declared the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process as a great platform in achieving this priority.  While addressing the gathering, DFM Nab applauded the co-chairs for holding two Senior Officials Meetings in the year and thank UNODC and the Republic of Kazakhstan for their support in holding the Joint Regional Conference on Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Narcotics in July 2019.He emphasized on such conferences as tools to achieve political consensus to counter the common challenges that the region faces. In his remarks he also welcomed the readiness of the Republic of India to support MoFA in holding two other region conferences on climate change and the role of religious scholars in countering radicalization in the Heart of Asia Region.  The DFM stressed that the new Implementation Plans for the six Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) of the HoA-IP are necessary documents which paves the path towards practical cooperation in the region and wished to have them endorsed at the upcoming Ministerial Conference. Regarding economic cooperation in the region, DFM Nab announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is looking forward to merge the Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA) into the HoA-IP so to make the HoA-IP a comprehensive and unique platform for regional cooperation between the countries of the region.  The remarks of the DFM was followed by the reception.
